History
Growing pressure on coastal ecosystems and coral reefs in Aceh created an urgent need to involve a new generation in marine conservation.
Founder Ibnu Husada used his fisheries education and field experience in marine biology to respond to damage affecting reefs and traditional fishing communities.
He founded Aceh Aquatic Youth on 24 August 2024 to combine marine education, coral reef conservation, and coastal community empowerment through science-based action.
The movement began by building awareness among students, universities, and the public, then developed field training in reef ecology, monitoring, and community-based restoration.
Young volunteers now support coral nurseries and restoration activities at coastal sites in Aceh while learning practical skills for long-term stewardship.
